2017 RESERVOIR CLEANING PROGRESS LOG
Performed on October 19, 2017 — completed on time and without problems.

Sat  10/21  5:30 PM
As you can see from the photo, the reservoir is almost full.  It will be completely full in another eight hours.  Water will continue to be rather hard, but will gradually become soften over the course of the next week.
Fri  10/20  9 AM
The reservoir cleaning and initial refill have been completed successfully.  A big thank you to:
  • King Water personnel:  Jason, Ron, and Tony.
  • KCCWA volunteers:  Bill Johnson and Mikel Van Buskirk — Mikel actually inspected the inside of the reservoir!
The reservoir is about half-full now, and will continue to refill more slowly as usage is now normal, and the softener is back online.  Since the softener was offline for the initial refilling, water hardness is high right now and will drop back to normal [8 grains/gal] over the next week or so.

This cleaning was also an opportunity to assess the status of the reservoir itself, and the health of our well.  This information will be used for future planning and maintenance.
Thurs  10/19  3:20 PM
   Update Message from Bill Johnson:
  • The water reservoir is now clean and the pump is filling us back up as fast as possible.
  • Please do not use water until later tonight.
  • Gravity system homes will have critical use only water after 9 pm.  Full use tomorrow morning when you wake up.
  • Pressure system homes will have water tomorrow morning.  There is a little pressure to bring you water for critical use only after 9 pm.  It will be 7-9 am for there to be enough reservoir build up to operate the pumps for full use.
  • A few things to note:
    1. King Water has used chlorine and until the water in the reservoir is sufficient there will be a chlorine odor to your water.  Please do not drink/consume water that has a chlorine odor.
    2. To fill the reservoir at the fastest possible rate the water softener has been turned off until tomorrow.  Your water may not be as soft as you are accustomed to.
    3. There may also be a little color to your water when first turning on your faucets.  Please follow the instructions provided in an earlier email.
Thanks,  Bill Johnson,  KCCWA President
Thurs  10/19  2:20 PM
Cleaning is complete.  The well pump will be turned on soon, after disinfecting the tank.  It takes about 15 hours of pumping before the pressure pumps can be primed.  So keep water use to an absolute minimum until tomorrow morning.  Progress will be posted here this evening.
Thurs  10/19  1:30 PM
Cleaning is progressing well — should be done within the hour or so.  Mike has not yet ventured into the tank.  Stay tuned for his report.
Thurs  10/19  12 noon
The reservoir is is finally empty enough to start cleaning inside — a couple of hours later than scheduled, but should not affect our overall schedule.
Thurs  10/19  11 AM
The reservoir is almost empty.  The outside walls have been cleaned, and King is preparing to enter the tank.  (I think that is Ron standing on the top of the tank.)  Our very own Mikel van Buskirk will also go inside the tank for an inspection!  Bill Johnson is onsite to monitor the operation.

Thurs  10/19  9 AM
All remaining water in the reservoir is being drained — about 7 feet of water (instead of 3 to 4 feet) has to be dumped.  When empty, King Water personnel will enter the reservoir to clean the inside.

Tues  10/17  12 noon
Bill Johnson checked the pump house and noticed that the main pump had not been turned off early as required, and that the reservoir was still full.  He turned off the main pump and reported this problem to King Water.  This means that the completion of the Thursday cleaning may be delayed as much as two hours.  Stay tuned.
